In conclusion, the merit of the Tombo Histórico Genealógico de Portugal lies in its role in publishing and promoting studies on genealogy and heraldry. According to its directors, as of 1911, "such studies on genealogy and heraldry rarely came about, although there are many scholars devoted to this kind of research. However, by not publicising their work, they greatly disadvantage those who are not fortunate enough to appreciate the originals" (Afonso de Dornelas; Alberto de Gusmão Navarro, «Advertência», Tombo Histórico Genealógico , Vol. 1, p. 3).
