The worsening health of Magalhães Basto, coupled with the accumulating annual financial deficit, led to a new suspension of O Tripeiro by its owner. However, its editorial distinctiveness and influence in Porto’s intellectual landscape prompted the formation of a new editorial team, which relaunched the 6th series (1961-1974) of O Tripeiro: revista mensal de divulgação e cultura, ao serviço da cidade e das suas tradições [ O Tripeiro : A Monthly Magazine for Cultural Dissemination, at the Service of the City and its Traditions] under the slogan Pelo Porto–Repositório de Notícias Portucalenses [For Porto–Repository of Portucalense News]. These shifts indicated a strengthening of the magazine’s historical and encyclopaedic-archival focus, likely in response to the impending restoration of the Faculdade de Letras in Porto and the rise of academic-scientific historiography. With Eugénio Andrea da Cunha e Freitas as its fourth director, 12 monthly issues were published over 13 years, following familiar editorial principles. The magazine remained dedicated to researching and publicising the history of Porto, with an increasing emphasis on literary and cultural aspects. New sections, such as Tripeiros de Ontem [Yesterday's Tripeiros], Ainda se lembra?... [Do You Still Remember?...], Aconteceu há 50 anos... [It Happened 50 Years Ago...], O Porto há 100 anos [Porto 100 Years Ago], and Tripeiro Camiliano , aimed to foster greater identification with readers' historical interests. Meanwhile, the magazine’s recreational content was diversified to include poetry, while its documentary aspect expanded to feature primary sources like notarial records and the 1758 parish memoirs of Porto. Special issues were also published in honour of figures such as Magalhães Basto, António Nobre, the inauguration of the Arrábida Bridge, and the 4th centenary of OsLusíadas [The Lusiads]. As for the most prominent contributors in Letters, Science, and the Arts, many of them were repeat collaborators, from the editorial team to the most regular contributors, including B. Xavier Coutinho, F. Cyrne de Castro, Guilherme Felgueiras, Damião Peres, José Régio, Cândido dos Santos, Elaine Sanceu, and Robert C. Smith. The last issue of the series was entirely directed by António Sardinha, who made the unilateral decision to discontinue the publication for the usual economic reasons. However, two special issues were released to close the 6th series: one marking the 6th centenary of the Luso-British Alliance and the other commemorating the centenary of Bonfim Church. Since 1981, a seventh series has been revived, still owned and published by the Porto Commercial Association.
