At the beginning of the 1950s, he elaborated on the same topics in the journals Filosofia , Revista Portuguesa de Filosofia and Studia [Philosophy, Portuguese Journal of Philosophy and Studia] . In the field of the history of religious thought, his work is extensive and his studies on the Oratorians , Franciscans, and Jesuits stand out. Later, he carried out original research into the history of education based on unpublished primary sources, in particular A reforma pombalina dos estudos secundários no Brasil (1.ª fase : 1759 a 1771) [The Pombaline Reform of secondary education in Brazil (1 st phase: 1759 to 1771)] (São Paulo, Universidade / Saraiva- Livreiros Editores , 1978), A reforma pombalina dos estudos secundários (1759-1771): contribuição para a história da pedagogia em Portugal [The Pombaline Reform of secondary studies (1759-1771): a contribution to the history of pedagogy in Portugal] (Doctoral thesis, 3 vols, Coimbra, By order of the University, 1981); the study A reforma pombalina dos estudos secundários no Arquipélago dos Açores : 1.ª fase 1759-71 [ The Pombaline Reform of secondary studies in the Azores archipelago] (Ponta Delgada, University of the Azores, 1983) was published posthumously. In the year of his death, the Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda published the book Contributos para a história da mentalidade pedagógica portuguesa [Contributions to the History of Portuguese pedagogical mentality] (668 p.), which brings together, according to Banha de Andrade himself, ‘small studies, published over several years of research, which have contributed, as the first harvest, to larger works (…) small contributions, locked away in journals that are difficult to access and, for many scholars, absent from their own libraries’, spread over six long chapters ( Três linhas de pensamento [Three lines of thought] ; Tomismo e aristotelismo em discussão [Thomism and Aristotelianism in debate] ; No signo cartesiano e wolfiano [In the Cartesian and Wolfian sign] ; Filosofia e ciências físicas nos Jesuítas [Philosophy and physical Sciences in the Jesuits] ; Filosofia e ciências físicas nos Oratorianos [Philosophy and physical Sciences in the Oratonians ] ; Pedagogia e Iluminismo [Pedagogy and the Enlightenment] ), preceded by a short Necessary Explanation written by the author. |
